LET’S MAKE A $1,000,000 IMPACT!
ALL CHALLENGERS SUPPORT LOCAL FOOD BANKS AND HUNGER RELIEF PROGRAMS

100% of All Donations support local food banks and hunger relief programs, to directly help people who are in dire need of food. Before Covid-19, 1 in 9 Americans struggled with food insecurity. As a result of Covid-19, food insecurity is expected to more than double worldwide. Our goal is to raise One Million Dollars to support local hunger relief programs throughout North America. Each individual challenge supports regional food banks or hunger relief programs, all of which are listed on the challenge websites.

We have already raised over $9,500 and our UPDATED goal is to raise $20,000 in the Illinois to support local programs, including Feeding Illinois and the Beautiful Together.: Feeding Foster Youth program.

Feeding Illinois

Our initial goal is to raise $20,000 for Feeding Illinois.

Feeding Illinois is the association of eight Feeding America food banks that serve Illinois. Together, we provide food and other services to every county in Illinois through a vast network of member agencies and specialized feeding programs. One out of nine Illinois residents, including 1 in 6 children, struggle with hunger - which is staggering and unnecessary; and Feeding Illinois members play a critical role in responding to this need.

As the state association for food banks serving Illinois, we help unify strategies and pool resources to strengthen and support the food banks’ local efforts to eliminate hunger in Illinois. Through vast coordination and with relentless commitment, each food bank has identified the specific needs of their communities and has developed a comprehensive array of programs and services to combat food insecurity - both short-term and long-term. As 11% of Illinois residents awake every day uncertain of where or unable to access their next meal, Feeding Illinois members are working vigorously with a statewide network of more than 2,400 pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and other agencies to distribute or serve over 190 million meals annually to those 1.4 million hungry neighbors across our state.

What Is Food Insecurity?

What is food insecurity?

Food insecurity describes a household’s inability to provide enough food for every person to live an active, healthy life. Food insecurity is one way we can measure and assess the risk of hunger. In the United States currently, one in nine people struggle with hunger.

What causes food insecurity?

One "bad month" can be enough to plunge a household into food insecurity. Layoffs at work, unexpected car maintenance or an accident on the job can suddenly force a family to choose between buying food and paying bills. A global pandemic only heightens this vulnerability.

That’s why many working families, including thousands of households who don’t qualify for federal nutrition assistance, depend on the Feeding America network of food banks to help make ends meet during difficult times. The Feeding America network serves nearly every community in the United States, helping more than more than 40 million people — including 12 million children and 7 million seniors.
